Setting up payouts (Stripe Connect)

Connecting a Stripe payout account is how your couples’ money reaches your bank — both hosting extensions and print orders. Half of every extension, and half the profit on every print, is your studio’s — but only once your account is connected, so do this before your first galleries hit their 90-day mark.

Connecting your account

The whole thing is a Stripe-hosted flow — your identity and bank details go straight to Stripe, and Knotflix never sees them:

  • Open Studio → Settings → Payouts. Only the studio owner can do this — teammates will see the tab but not the button.
  • Click Connect with Stripe. You’ll be handed off to Stripe’s onboarding — a few minutes of business details, identity check, and the bank account you want paid.
  • When you finish, Stripe sends you back to Settings. Once verification clears, the Payouts tab shows your account as active.
  • If Stripe later asks for more information (it happens — a verification document, usually), the Payouts tab shows what’s outstanding. Handle it promptly or Stripe pauses payouts until you do.

The split, and when money arrives

Every gallery includes 90 days of hosting, and couples can pay to extend it right from their gallery. Once your account is active, that payment is split at checkout: half settles into your Stripe balance automatically, on every purchase, with nothing for you to invoice or chase.

Print orders work the same way. When a couple orders a print, canvas, acrylic or metal from their gallery, the profit — what they paid, less what the lab charges — is split in half at checkout, and your half lands in the same balance. Shipping is passed through at cost and earns nobody anything.

From your balance, Stripe pays out to your bank on its standard schedule. The first payout on a new account takes about a week while Stripe finishes verification; after that, payouts arrive automatically on a rolling basis. Stripe gives you a dashboard for the connected account where you can see every payment and payout as it lands.

Common questions

Do I need an existing Stripe account?

No. The connect flow creates a Stripe Express account tied to your studio — Stripe walks you through it from scratch. If you already use Stripe for something else, this account stays separate from it.

What about extensions or prints couples bought before I connected?

Those settled to Knotflix — the split applies from the moment your account is verified and isn’t retroactive, for both hosting and prints. That’s the practical reason to connect during your trial, before any gallery’s included 90 days start running out or a couple orders a canvas.
